Arab-Jew riots, 1920

Here for your enjoyment is an historic photograph of the Arab Riots of 1920. Photograph was taken in 1920 by American Colony (Jerusalem). Photo Dept., photographer.

The photo illustrates the start of the modern Jewish - Arab conflict. Rioting Arabs terrorized Jewish settlers. Failure of Britain to adequatly protect the Jews during these riots resulted in the Jews setting up an underground self-defense militia, the Haganah. This represented the rebirth of the Jewish Military. .

We have compiled this collection of photographs mainly to serve as a valuable educational resource. Contact curator@old-picture.com.
